Miniature Juniper Landscape.

Work on this miniature landscape began in 2013 . The composition  consists of 6 procumbent junipers. Saikei is the creation of a miniature landscape using stones, soil, water, herbaceous plants, moss, and small trees.

This composition uses stones imported from Spain, so-called Woodenstone, which have a texture resembling petrified wood, though they are natural stones. When creating a saikei, the components are arranged according to certain proportions, in order to create the illusion of a mountainous relief, a hilly meadow, or a coastline. The proportions of the trees themselves are roughly the same as in classic bonsai.

The saikei style allows free choice of trees (both deciduous and coniferous). Using 2-3 year old seedlings is also acceptable. In this particular example, the number of trees is even, which is accepted practice for saikei and distinguishes it from the miniature forest (Yose-ue) style.

As a rule, fruit-bearing trees are not used in such compositions. To enhance the imitation of a natural landscape, specialists sometimes also use herbaceous plants, which emphasizes the scale of the environment.
