Choosing a gift is often a challenging task that requires considering many factors. This is especially true when we aim for the item to be meaningful, symbolic, and memorable for the recipient. Typically, bonsai meets all these criteria: it is rare, original, and, in addition to being beautiful, carries symbolic significance.
A significant portion of those interested in purchasing bonsai from us share this goal: to delight a loved one by gifting them a miniature tree. In such cases, we always warn buyers: consider whether the recipient of the gift is prepared to give the bonsai proper attention.
Bonsai care differs from regular houseplant care. For example: while a watering schedule can be created for the latter, watering a bonsai is entirely weather-dependent (in summer, it may require watering twice a day, while in winter, it might not need watering for 2-3 weeks). This is why bonsais require daily attention during the summer.
Like other types of plants, bonsai can also develop pests. Frequent monitoring is necessary to avoid this.
Due to a lack of time, many find it difficult to perform all of this properly. For a bonsai owner, care should be associated with pleasure, not difficulty. Otherwise, sooner or later, the tree will inevitably deteriorate. However, with proper care, a bonsai can live for centuries.
Although we provide a detailed care guide for every bonsai, there are still cases of dried miniature trees due to improper care. This is very disappointing both for us and for the owner.
It is important to consider before gifting: what a bonsai is. It is not just a decorative item to beautify the interior, and a lot of years have been spent on its formation. Typically, creating a beautiful bonsai requires at least 5-8 years of expertise, and for a refined piece, 10-15 years may be needed.
Therefore, think carefully before deciding to purchase a bonsai as a gift.
