The bonsai culture arrived late in Georgia. Even today, many people lack accurate information about bonsai, but through the internet, numerous reliable sources can be found in different languages. In the early 90s, when I started working with bonsai, I unfortunately did not have this luxury. For 10 years, I was guided by only a few books. There was no one in Georgia who could help or guide me in learning about this culture. This is why the learning process was very slow and labor-intensive. It took many years to achieve the desired result.
After 30 years of working with bonsai, I took the liberty to share my experience with others. The first reason was that reliable information about this Japanese culture was not available in the Georgian language or Georgian internet space. With the help of my son, we created a website, the main purpose of which is educational. After bonsai became relatively popular in our country, many people expressed a desire to learn this art. This made me think about creating a bonsai school.
The main problem initially was the lack of an appropriate space. Our workspace neither looked visually appealing nor would it have been functional for any educational activities. In January 2021, we had the opportunity to rent a Soviet-era, non-functional greenhouse on the territory of Expo Georgia. We were immediately captivated by the idea, as the greenhouse allowed us to beautifully display our bonsai and also conduct our educational courses in the same space. It took a lot of effort to clean the space and set it up for the lessons, but it was definitely worth it.
On March 13, 2021, we formed our first study group. The learning process is very labor-intensive, but at the same time, it is very enjoyable for me. I am also happy that each of my students is a unique and interesting person. Even after the course ends, their visits to us are especially joyful.
Bonsai courses also help in the popularization of this culture. The more people study this art in depth, the faster the correct information about bonsai spreads. I think this is very important.
The new fall course starts on September 16th. The course duration is 2 months. This time, we are accepting only two groups of 5 members each. During practical lessons, having more than 5 participants is not effective. For detailed information about the courses, write to us on Instagram and Facebook pages.
