About me

I first became interested in miniature trees at the age of 13 or 14, after watching a brief television report. It seemed quite strange and fascinating to me how an ordinary tree could be grown in a small pot to be only a few centimeters tall, naturally beautiful, and most surprisingly, it could bear regular fruit. After finishing my studies at the institute, I decided to seriously study bonsai. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any literature or a person in Georgia who could provide even a little information on how to grow bonsai. It was only in 1990, after purchasing a book by an Indian author translated into Russian, that I began working with bonsai. I started making bonsai from my own planted mulberry tree. At first, I only had four plants on the balcony. Later, after a long search, I was able to buy a few more books, but the information was still scarce because in the 1990s, bonsai was not something that many people in Georgia had time for.

After a few years, the internet provided me with many more opportunities to learn about the work and methods of experienced specialists. What was particularly important were the numerous photos that were published on various websites. The accessibility of information naturally gave me more opportunities to improve the quality of my bonsai and increase their quantity. When I could no longer fit the trees on my balcony, I moved to the roof of my multi-story building and placed the bonsai on large shelves.

Growing bonsai does not require special education; anyone with the desire, some imagination, and patience can start working after obtaining a certain amount of basic information. However, if a bonsai enthusiast wants to grow a truly unique and beautiful miniature plant, they should thoroughly study the methods of shaping, consider the experiences of other specialists, carefully examine pictures of bonsai masterpieces, beautiful trees growing in nature, and most importantly, devote a lot of time to working on creating the bonsai.

Bonsai enthusiasts can be conditionally divided into two groups: those who want to buy a “pre-made” bonsai and those who wish to grow a bonsai themselves. This website will be useful for both groups of people. Even for a bonsai enthusiast who, for various reasons, cannot work on creating a bonsai, it is essential to understand what bonsai is and learn the methods of its care. Otherwise, the bonsai will lose its beauty in a few months or dry out.

The tradition of creating miniature trees, born centuries ago in China, is now popular worldwide. In Georgia, very few people have information about bonsai, and in many cases, this information does not correspond to reality. The purpose of creating this website is an attempt to better introduce and popularize bonsai in Georgia. After twelve years of work, I allowed myself to share my experience with interested individuals. Of course, it is not enough to only get acquainted with the theory to learn bonsai. Without dedicated work, it is impossible to achieve serious results. Growing bonsai is not as difficult as it may seem to a beginner enthusiast. All that is needed is dedication, attention, and especially great patience, because achieving a beautiful bonsai is only possible after several years of work.
