Bonsai school

The art of bonsai came to Georgia late. Even today many people lack accurate information about bonsai, although plenty of reliable sources in various languages can be found online. In the early ’90s, when I was starting out with bonsai, I unfortunately didn’t have that luxury. For 10 years I had only a few books to guide me. There was no one in Georgia who could help me get to know this art, or even point me in the right direction. That is exactly why the learning process was very slow and laborious. It took me many years to achieve the results I had in mind.

After 30 years of working with bonsai, I allowed myself to share my experience with others. The first reason was that no reliable information about this Japanese art could be found in Georgian, on the Georgian internet. With my son’s help we created a website whose main purpose is educational. Once bonsai became relatively popular in our country, many people expressed a wish to learn this art. That got me thinking about creating a bonsai school.

At first the main problem was the lack of a suitable space. Our workplace didn’t look good, and functionally it would have been impossible to hold any kind of educational activity there. In January 2021 we had the chance to lease a disused greenhouse, built in the Soviet period, on the grounds of Expo Georgia. We were taken with the idea from the start: the greenhouse would let us display our bonsai beautifully and also hold courses in the same space. It took a great deal of effort to clean up the space and fit it out for lessons. But it was all truly worth it.

On March 13, 2021, we took on our first group of students. Teaching is very demanding work, but at the same time very rewarding for me. It also makes me happy that every one of my students is a special and interesting person. It is a particular joy when they come to visit us even after finishing the course.

The bonsai courses also help popularize this art. The more people study this art in depth, the sooner accurate information about bonsai spreads. And I think that is very important.

The new spring course starts on March 7. The course lasts 2 months. This time we are taking only one group of 5 people. When teaching practical material, taking on more than 5 people is not effective. For detailed information about the courses, write to us on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
