Our space

My first bonsai trees were on the balcony of an ordinary apartment building. Since I had only a few trees, I didn’t need a special space to place them. Over the years, I worked on new and new trees. After a few years, the growing collection no longer fit on the balcony. The only solution, where I could place them, was the roof of my apartment building. Working there turned out to be convenient for me because, after coming home from work, I didn’t have to go far, and I didn’t waste time on the way.

I worked on the roof for several years, but soon it became difficult to fit all my bonsais. That’s why, when the nursery company ('Europflant Georgia'), located at the exhibition area on Tsereteli Avenue, offered me to move there, I easily agreed.
The new space allowed me to further expand my collection and take on new challenges. I felt comfortable in that area, and what added to it was that there was always an interesting seedling available at the nursery. As a result, I no longer had to go far to find a seedling.

Despite this, my workplace could not be called an exhibition space. For the most part, I didn’t think about arranging the trees beautifully because I didn’t have the finances or the time for it. As a result, for a visiting guest, it was difficult to perceive most of the bonsais. (Some were placed at inappropriate heights, trees were covering each other, etc.) However, a bonsai should be placed in a separate area for viewing so that its aesthetics can be fully appreciated.

This problem was addressed by my younger son. For almost a year, we searched for a suitable space for us. Various companies and nurseries offered to place our collection on their territory. In the end, we preferred to set up this space independently, according to our own taste.

In January 2021, we found a free greenhouse built during the Soviet era near our bonsai space, still located on the "Expo Georgia" territory. The building resembled more of a ruin than a greenhouse. We realized from the start that it would be difficult to bring this greenhouse into order. Everything had to be done with our own hands. We also asked our friends for their opinion on this greenhouse, and they also saw the potential to transform this place into an exhibition space. That's how we decided to move there. The building would also serve as a classroom for bonsai courses in the future. We decided to rent this place in winter and started organizing it.

I was greatly helped by my children and their friends in organizing the space. Without their assistance, it would have been impossible to set up the exhibition space. In half a year, we gave our greenhouse the appearance it has now. The bonsai courses are also being successfully held. The greenhouse has transformed into both an exhibition space and a comfortable working place.

I am happy that most of the visitors like our space. There are still some details to be done for the place to be considered fully arranged, and I hope we will manage to complete everything in the near future.
